Great Ideas To top

National Conference on Ending Family & Youth Homelessness1-2 March, Los Angeles, CA "...learning and sharing with thought leaders, practitioners, and advocates in family and youth homelessness. Discover the latest tools for developing effective housing and service interventions, crisis response systems, and community-wide approaches; and help shape federal policy goals."

 Shelter Resource Bank
"The S. Mark Taper Foundation Shelter Resource Bank is a unique project that distributes, free of charge, donations of surplus inventory from manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, and others to homeless service agencies throughout Los Angeles County.

Shelter Partnership reinforces the provision of basic assistance through the immensely successful S. Mark Taper Foundation Shelter Resource Bank project. Established in 1989, the project has secured new donated goods from over 600 companies, and has distributed over $210 million worth of goods to more than 550 agencies that serve the homeless and very poor. Examples of goods are toilet paper, personal hygiene products, linens, clothing, diapers, toys, baby products, cleaning products, and so much more. By meeting immediate needs, the project enables participating agencies to focus their energy and scarce resources on case management, support services, and organizational capacity-building."

Build For Zero
"Building on the momentum of our 100,000 Homes Campaign, a national movement that helped communities find homes for 105,580 homeless Americans in four years, we are:
Helping a committed group of U.S. communities do whatever it takes to end veteran and chronic homelessness
Creating a national tipping point to prove that success is possible, ultimately motivating all communities to end chronic and veteran homelessness."

Article introducing Homelink Just Like Airbnb
"A new web-based tool aims to help change this. Designed by Community Solutions and Palantir Technologies, a software company, this platform, called Homelink, helps cities to collect data on individual homeless clients, such as income, medical history and substance-abuse problems, and then assign a severity score (using one of several surveying methods). The results are gathered in a centralised database for each city, which participating agencies can access and update. An algorithm then matches homeless people with the services available, targeting the neediest clients with the most immediate help. "
